ABOUT ROY’S DIAMOND CENTER

In April of 1977, after many years working for the Jewel Box Corp., Roy Truitt bought out Galax Jewelry Co. on North Main Street in Downtown Galax and thus began the history of Roy’s Diamond Center.

In 1981, Roy’s moved from North Main to South Main into the Lineberry’s Jewelry location and remained there for 27 years.

In December 2008, Roy’s moved one door down into a newly restored and renovated historic building which was the former home to Henderson Jewelers.

Roy’s Diamond Center began as and remains a family-owned and operated jewelry store with Roy, son Tony, and daughter Sandra all actively involved with the store. You might even find some of the granddaughters or great granddaughters working on special occasions.

Roy’s prides itself on providing friendly hometown service in a relaxed, comfortable setting.

We invite you to check out our website and we welcome you to visit our store in Downtown Galax.

Roy and Shirley worked side by side for many years! They put everything they had into the store, working day and night in order for their business to grow and succeed.

Shirley loved her family fiercely! We always joked that we should call the store "Roy's Diamond and Daycare" because the 5 granddaughters were here frequently, followed by the great-grandchildren. She sat in the back many days, rocking the kids, fixing snacks, helping with homework, and the list could go on.

In December of 2018, Shirley was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. On Valentine's Day 2019, Shirley passed away.

In 2020, Roy decided to take a step back from the day-to-day operations of the store. He quickly realized retirement was pretty nice. Tony and Sandra, Roy's son and daughter, are now co-owners of the business.

Tom is our bench jeweler here at Roy’s Diamond Center. Tom is a 3rd generation jeweler from Greeneville, TN. In 1920 his grandfather started the family's namesake store, Paxtons Jewelers where Tom’s dad, David Paxton, and other family members operated the store until its closing in 2005. After the store closed, Tom managed his own jewelry repair business, The Jewelry Bench. Tom has been a bench jeweler for over 42 years. He does jewelry repairs, stone settings, custom work, and general jewelry consultation. Tom and his wife Cindy, pastor of Oakland United Methodist Church in Pipers Gap, moved to the area in June of 2022. They have 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren. Since moving to the area, they have taken time to explore the beautiful area and spend time walking and biking on the New River Trail. They also enjoy Friday night football and were excited to move to a “football town” here in Galax. Tom feels blessed to be a part of the Roy’s Diamond Center family. We would like to invite you to stop by, meet and say hello to Tom, and allow us to assist you with any jewelry needs or repairs.
